Collect the Data
We begin by collecting live data directly from your PLCs, capturing critical operational metrics and performance insights. Our system is designed to handle continuous data acquisition from multiple sources, including sensors, controllers and industrial devices. This real-time data collection captures operational metrics such as temperature, pressure, throughput, equipment status and fault diagnostics. Edge Processing
Once collected, the data undergoes local preprocessing on edge devices or edge servers. We apply intelligent filtering, data conditioning and aggregation techniques to remove noise and redundant information. Processing at the edge reduces latency, lowers bandwidth consumption and ensures that only high-value, actionable data is sent beyond the OT environment.
Protect the Data
All data is encrypted to the highest standard before leaving the OT environment to ensure its integrity and confidentiality. The result is a fully protected data package that contains operational insights while ensuring that sensitive industrial information remains protected against interception or manipulation.
Transfer of Data via MQTT
Encrypted data is transferred safely from OT to IT environments with end-to-end cyber security using MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport) the leading lightweight messaging protocol designed for industrial data transport. This ensures reliable, efficient and secure communication across firewalls and between OT and IT networks, even in environments with variable connectivity or bandwidth restrictions. All transmissions are monitored, logged and auditable for regulatory compliance and cybersecurity assurance.
Unpack and Verify Data for Use
On arrival at the destination endpoint, data is decrypted, verified for integrity and quality checked. The data is then ready for use by monitoring dashboards, analytic platforms, reporting tools and enterprise systems. All metadata including timestamps and source identification is preserved to ensure full traceability.

Onboarding with datumpin is quick, easy and tailored to your business.
Step 1 - Work Plan
First, datumpin will learn from your team to develop a work plan tailored to your business goals and target savings based on our equipment engineering inhouse knowledge.
Step 2 - Developing bespoke data memory
Once you’ve provided a copy of your PLC software, datumpin will develop a bespoke embedded data memory acquisition software that’s unique to your PLC. No changes to your PLC software are required. Alternatively, if your business does not have access to a copy of your PLC software, datumpin can provide a secure local download service.
Step 3 - Data establishment
At this stage, datumpin will install your eDM unit onto your PLC network, and our bespoke data acquisition software will start capturing and storing your PLC data in the eDM onboard data repository.

datumpin will establish edge computing data streaming into your core data hub, providing access to rich data within your PLC and reducing the data burden on your telemetry systems. Beyond this, datumpin can also leverage edge computing to combine PLC data parameters into new source tracking metrics.
What is edge computing? This involves placing computer resources or an edge device (sensors, cameras, IoT devices) at or near the location of the data source. This reduces latency, saves bandwidth, and enhances privacy and security.
Workspace
Alternatively, if your business does not have a core data hub, or you’d simply prefer to use datumpin’s Workspace tools for fault identification and optimisation, there is another option. Workspace tools provide access to your stored information in the PLC Edge data repository, including tracker and alert systems for remote monitoring of alarms, setpoint changes and our diagnostic tool data stack.
